Before you renew
Rules & reminders
- Complete CE during your license term and at least 30 days before your renewal date to avoid a CE late fee.
- Legal and Legislative Update (A), Ethics (D) and Principles of Brokerage Relationships and Disclosure (H) are required Maryland courses for all licensees and cannot be substituted.
- The first-renewal salesperson topics are mandatory and cannot be replaced with other education or with CE from another state.
- The Ethics course must cover the Maryland Code of Ethics, flipping and predatory lending, and professionalism. NAR ethics is not a substitute.
- A new broker, branch office manager or team leader has 90 days to complete the 1.5-hour MREC Supervision course, unless it was completed during the previous renewal.
- To stay on inactive status you must still complete CE and renew. All hours due must be completed before you apply to reactivate.
- If you hold more than one Maryland license, the school must report your completion for each license number.
- Licensed in another state? Those CE hours may count toward your Maryland electives. Email the completion certificate(s) with your Maryland license number to [email protected] at least 30 days before your license expires. Maryland does not recognize post-licensing education.
How your credit gets to MREC
CE credit reporting
Maryland education providers report course completions electronically to the Maryland Real Estate Commission and have up to 14 days after the course to do so. Tristar Academy uploads your credits within 24–72 hours, and you can download a certificate of completion from your student account once your photo ID is approved.
Check your credits anytime with MREC’s CE credit lookup. If credits from a Tristar course are missing, contact us with a screenshot and we’ll resubmit them.
Renewal date
Maryland licenses renew every two years from the date issued. Your expiration date is printed on your license and shown in the MREC license search.
